Die stamping on promotional gifts

Die Stamping is one of the more popular methods of personalising business gifts and is especially effective on leather, PU (simulated leather) and PVC where the branding impression can be exceptionally sharp...for instance on diaries, conference folders, road atlases, leather wallets, notecases and cheque book holders.

Die stamping, sometimes called hot stamping, gold blocking, foil blocking or blind embossing, uses a heated metal die that "impresses" the substrate leaving an indentation to a specific depth and sometimes this is filled with gold metallic foil (gold embossed), other coloured metallic foil (foil blocked) or left untreated (blind embossed).

Even though many customers refer to “gold blocking” there is no limit to the brilliant metallic colours now used when die stamping leather, imitation leather and other plastic materials for promotional products. Unlike the ink based tampo printing,  die stamping is a completely dry process. However, although there is a wide choice of attractive and brilliant colours, it is not always possible to precisely match a pantone or house colours.

Of the many personalisation methods die stamping can be really effective on leather promotional coasters, PU (simulated leather) and PVC advertising coasters and, although the process is usually restricted to a single colour, it is not necessary to only stamp in the usual silver or gold.

Blind embossing

Blind embossing is a particularly attractive form of die stamping  on quality desk diaries and conference folders where its discrete image enhances the perceived value of any promotional gift.

For instance it would be a waste of the advertising budget to use a prestigious business gift like a Swiss Army knife or a Leatherman multi-tool and personalise them with a screen print...normal wear and tear would soon render the personalisation invisible but you could consider Die Stamping.
