No Smoking Labels and Signs

Sunday 1st July 2007 is a momentous day in the UK for from this date it will be illegal to smoke in almost all enclosed spaces throughout England. Anybody responsible for the management of any premises will be duty bound to ensure that there is no smoking and, what’s more, ensure that there are adequate signs to this effect.

There are government approved signs that must be displayed at the entrance to premises and in work vehicles that are a smoke free zone.

These new laws will be enforced by local councils so they are the best place to bring you and your employees up-to-date on the legal sign requirements. Additionally, the government publishes excellent material which can be viewed on their website at www.smokefreeengland.co.uk or there is an information line at 0800 169 1697.

From the 1st July 2007 you must make sure that your staff, customers and any visitors are under no illusions that premises and vehicles are smoke free. Further, you will have to close any current indoor smoke rooms on your premises. As an alternative you will be allowed to transfer this facility to an outdoor smoking shelter with the proviso that the shelter is not “enclosed” or “substantially” enclosed, but you will have to contact your local council for some advice before creating an outdoor smoking site.

So here, in a nutshell, is what it all means to you.

1. Make all your staff and visitors aware that the premises and vehicles are legally required to be smokefree .

2. Display “no smoking” signs in smokefree premises and vehicles to this effect.

3. Close any existing smoking rooms.

4. Ensure that no one smokes in smokefree premises or vehicles.

As you might expect we have prepared a number of aluminium signs and labels for some of our customers and there are illustrations of these at the start of this photo gallery. There are certain government restrictions on size and so on but within these recommendations we can make to order.

Aluminium signs and labels can be free standing, self adhesive or supplied pre-drilled for screws or rivets. Depending on your premises you may wish to “dress up your labels and signs” and therefore we have shown some illustrations of various presentations.
